She was 92. Born in Green Bay, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin, cum laude, in 1933, majoring in economics. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. For 35 years, she lived in Charlottesville, where she was active in the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Unitarian Church and was organist from 1955 to 1963. She was also active in the League of Women Voters in the late 1950s and early '60s during school desegregation in Virginia.
She was president of the Albemarle chapter and later a member of the Board of the Virginia League of Women Voters. She moved to Carol Woods in 1986. A celebratory piano concert will be performed by Thomas Warburton, professor of music at the University of North Carolina and longtime friend, on March 30 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium at Carol Woods, 750 Weaver Dairy Road. At the Easter Sunday service on March 31, the choir of the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Unitarian Church in Charlottesville, will dedicate music to her.
Survivors include three daughters, Johanna Parkes of Marco Island, Suzanne Fletcher of Boston, and Louise Reza of Richmond, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Robert D. and Helen S. Wright Scholarship Fund in International Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University, 615 Wolfe Baltimore, MD 21205-2179 or the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Unitarian Church, 7171 Rugby Road, Charlottesville, Va. 22903.
